What a crazy few weeks. I had the pleasure of setting up a new network, from the IP block up, for a large police department in central vermont. I was able to setup a fully virtualized intranet, on a highly redundant storage cluster, and for much, much less in hardware costs than you would expect. One of the great things about being a small, flexible company is that we were able to do the project over the course of a weekend, minimizing impact to the client.
It was a great experience, though, and the folks at the police department were very good to work with. I am glad I was able to help them.
Welcome to NorthEast Kingdom Networks. I’m glad you could make it.
Let me start by saying that we aren’t your typical IT company. We don’t always want to make a big sale. In fact, any hardware or software you purchase from us will be passed through with no markup. We will always show you our cost on your invoice.
We aren’t, and don’t want to be, a huge company. Small companies are more fun to work for and with, more agile, and can be every bit as efficient as a large company.
Most companies have a web page that describes their services at length, and buried somewhere in the back, mentions who they are. They use lots of jargon to describe what they do. We do it differently. Our main page is our company blog. Behind that, you will find a page with a list of services. Our jargon will be as minimal as possible. I want to humanize the IT business in northern Vermont.
And I want to prove that old standards aren’t always correct anymore. Work isn’t just an office thing. I am building this webpage using my iPad, secure shelling into a webserver. I actually typed this post while sitting on Prouty Beach, in Newport. All of the edits and text entry are being done on my Palm Pre Plus, a wonderful little smartphone on Verizon.
When you call, a real person will either answer the phone, or call you back within a half hour. I honestly don’t care if you have a contract or not. You’ll get a call.
In short, I want this to be different. I want you to enjoy working with me, and I want your experiences with us, and with your own technology, to be incredible. That’s why our motto isn’t “make money,” or “sell up!” It is “great networking.” Both technical, and interpersonal.
